Anyone with rudimentary math skills knows that five + five does not equal five, so please let me explain.  Starting with the question, “How many times has one heard that you should have a long-term goal and be focused for the entire length of that long term?  Focusing on a typical five-year plan in the equation, the answer five is a five-year goal and the 5+5 is the underlying principle to attaining that goal.  The application of this principle will prove essential in achieving your five-year plan in life.

Speaking with numerous people on a daily basis, I hear their frustration about the goals they have set and the lack of progress they have made.  It is said, “A mountain is built one pebble at a time and climbed on step at a time.”

"We are all designed for greatness,
but we need to be conscious of our associations
and what we are reading, listening to, and feeding our minds on a daily basis." -John Di Lemme

The first “5” in the equation represents the five people that you call your closest friends and associates.  I suggest that you make a list of those five people.  Then take a good look at them to see if they either have goals similar to yours or are progressing towards the achievement of a goal similar to your five-year vision.  A major key to unlocking the secrets to your future is to be 110% of the fact that you will ultimately become who you associate with in life.

For example, if you have dreams of becoming healthy, wealth and your associates are overweight smokers that complain about working even one-minute of overtime, I can predict the odds of you being healthy and wealth are slim to none.  Millions of people never attain their dreams because their “friends” serve as “cement shoes” as they walk towards their goals in life.   As you set your goals, surround yourself with people who are the same path in life that you are on.  If you truly internalize this mind-set, you can and will achieve success.

The second “5” in the equation is to take a personal inventory of the last five books you have read.  Just for fun to illustrate this point, the next time one of your friends complains about something, ask them what were the last five books they have read.  You will get one of two answers:  “I don’t remember” or “I don’t have the time to read.”  The last five books that you have read will determine where your focus and direction is in life.  The average person reads one book a year after high school, which is the #1 reason why 95% of people are “dead broke at age 65.”

Even the greatest computer in the world needs to be programmed in order to perform its functions.  We are all designed for greatness, but we need to be conscious of our associations and what we are reading, listening to and feeding our minds on a daily basis.  This will decide the level of greatness that we all can reach.

Decide today to focus on your five-year goal and realize that your five friends and the five books/CDs that you listen to will determine if you hit your “Why,” ultimate goal or not.  Success is simple but not easy, because it takes the ability to grow, search and learn to enjoy every day as you progress towards your 5-year goal.  5+5=5, try it.  You can actually predict your results…5+5 = Your 5-Year Dream.  Go for it!
